[If you have seen Mahanathi (2018) starring Keerthi Suresh and Dulquer, you have seen it all – except the name of the actual cause that led to the distress in marriage. I have done a lot of research towards a 635 page book. However, just like the movie, the book too does not reveal the complete truth. When and why did she become Rani’s favorite star.
My first recollection was when I was perhaps 7 years old and Kalathoor Kannamma was running in Ashoka Theatre a block away from my house in Frazer Town, Bangalore. I ran there several times to watch this matinee idol on screen. Even got a spanking from Amma. Amidst tears, I remember telling Amma the scenes she acted. Amma started laughing. When I was ten years old, Amma took me to a wedding in Bangalore attended by Savitri Ganesh. I made an album of her pictures and gave it to her.
Most Memorable Moment in her life that I can recall….
She was a great giver. She died poor because of her generosity. Relatives who were benefitted by her let her down. At a gathering when the Prime Minister appealed for people to give for the Indian Army in 1965, she, on the spot, gave all her jewelry.
